Freight Management Systems
In 2007 MFS investigated various FMS (Freight Management Systems) options. The project objective was to ensure selection of the ‘operational best fit’ system with customer after sales reporting capability a pre-requisite. Our FMS was installed throughout the network in late 2007.
Our philosophy regarding PODs is simple, we treat it the same as a currency and as a result stringent processes are in place to ensure swift transfer of clear PODs back to the client. As standard practice the scanning of all PODs is conducted by a dedicated Head Office Team. Our FMS allows for EDI transfer of batched POD files directly into a client’s system.
Automated Updating of Client Systems
We have this application currently in place with a number of clients who, when files are transferred immediately upgrade the information to their SAP. Traceability via our FMS of all consignments whether in transit or delivered will be conducted using the unique consignment reference. POD transfer within the stipulated time limit is confirmed as achievable with current procedures.
We use the latest GPS tracking systems on our vehicles. The GPS tracking system allows us to view the location of our fleet vehicles in real-time, 24 hours a day from anywhere. But that’s just the beginning. In addition to location data, our system provides a list of our vehicles showing the status of each. We know when a vehicle is started up and shut down, as well as its idling status, location and speed. This information gives us complete, up-to-the-minute knowledge of our fleet activities. Our GPS system gives us the ability to “ride” along with our drivers without ever leaving the office.
